He has one week left before he finishes! Totally amazing to run across the country. #Repost @robbiebalenger @get_reposter Days 67 and 68: . The first half of Day 67 was in Maryland, and I ended the day back in Pennsylvania. The hardwood trees and amazing vistas are truly something. Yet they have come at a cost, my body is wrecked. I am amazed at how hard I have to work with each incline and descent. My energy levels and legs are totally taxed. My legs hurt worse than they did in the first few weeks when my body was adjusting to the high mileage. I wish I had something more positive to say about the day but the truth is I have been consumed by the strain and pain. . Day 68 . This morning was really tough. I made my way out of the Appalachians with one last major climb, a descent, and a long flat section. Oh, then there was another last climb just for good measure. I was absolutely exhausted at my 10-mile stop and in no way could imagine being able to put in another 35 miles. At mile 20 I had some cold spaghetti with olive oil. It gave me a midday boost and the carbs I needed to make it up and over the last bit uphill. Close to the top, we intersected the Appalachian Trail! Jackie and Elliott were shuttled there earlier in the day to get off the pavement and go for a trail run. Jackie spent the rest of the afternoon handing out snacks and beverages to thru hikers (this giving back is called “trail magic” in AT lingo). . It was so great to see Jackie and Elliott taking time to do something for themselves. Both of them spend much of their days helping me and keeping me company running on the road. We’re all trail people at heart, so it was nice to see them have a moment in their element. . The final miles of the day were really hard. My legs developed shooting pains. I think it’s likely from pounding down steep hills for days and days. We think the next couple of days should only be moderately hilly, so hopefully the pain will just subside due to the change in topography. . As of the end of Day 68, I entered into my LAST WEEK OUT HERE! Only 7 days left!
Day 1 - Dusted off these bad boys and volunteered at the very first, official parkrun in our great city! I had a good “job” that let me take it easy. I didn’t fall down, and I didn’t die.
