…But Is It Vegan?

Vegan means a lot to me.  I had a six year adventure in the world of vegan.  My return to non-vegan was more about finding things that worked for my body and less with missing meat.  Unable to find the magic formula, I added some meat back into the mix and many issues I was experiencing cleared up.  It makes no sense to me, but I’m still playing with the balance.

That said, when I first learned of Willing Beauty, one of my first questions was, “Are the products vegan?” I’m happy to report that most of them are!  Three products contain beeswax and are not considered vegan.

leaping bunnyWilling Beauty does not participate in animal testing, and the products are cruelty free. At launch, you will see that our products contain the Leaping Bunny™ seal.  Leaping Bunny™ is a big deal!

The three products that contain beeswax are Zero Shine Mattifying Moisturizer (from the Willa line,) and Partner in Time Age Defying Night Serum and Sleepover Replenishing Night Cream (from the HY+5 line.)  Basically, my night time regimen.  I can live with that.

I happen to have friends who have bees. I have seen how the bees are handled, how honey and beeswax is harvested, and the loving kindness involved in maintaining the hives. I’m ok with a bit of beeswax.

Ethical products.  That was a HUGE deciding factor for me.  It’s a question I ask often, and often am not pleased with the answer.

An added bonus? The packaging is recyclable!

Are all of the products I use vegan?  No.  Do I try?  Yes.  Do I have friends who walk the walk and talk the talk?  Yes.  I will find my balance again. For now I am thrilled to be a part of this company, and to use such wonderful products!

What Boosts Your Confidence?

Sometimes it’s a little thing that makes us feel younger, stronger, prettier, smarter. Sometimes it’s a big thing. Clothes often do that for me. A slimming outfit, a color that I know makes my eyes bright.

What does it for you?  One of these or something else entirely?

They all work for me!

A Halloween Story

Once upon a time I grew up in a rural community in Northern California. Very rural.

The year was 1977. Halloween was a big deal that year. I don’t remember what our costumes were, but I remember the car and the pumpkin.

We had an orange Malibu. Orange? Yes. The color-blind paternal unit painted it orange. Not pretty, but he loved it. (If my recollection is correct, he thought it was lemon yellow.)

That was the year he came upon a really huge pumpkin. We’re talking close to three feet tall. Huge. HUGE!!  I remember him pondering that pumpkin, and a plan developed.

The plan was simple. Carve a terrifying face. Rig a lightbulb inside that was wired so that the cigarette lighter would turn it off and on. Affix it to the top of the car. Drive around on Halloween night, scaring the trick-or-treaters.

We watched him prepare for about a week. On Halloween night, we waited until dark and then headed into town. We crept along the neighborhood streets, and turn on the pumpkin when we approached a group of kids. The maternal unit stuck a cassette recorder out the window and played a recording of the haunted house record. There was jumping, screaming, and laughing all night. The town kids got a kick out of it.

It is quite possible that the parents had more fun that year than us kids.

Now and then, this time of year, that memory wanders in and I wonder…how would that plan play out nowadays?

I wonder how technology would make a difference. I’m guessing there wouldn’t need to be wires going to the cigarette lighter, nor a cassette recorder held out the window. Let’s face it, cassettes don’t even exist any more. It all would be quite different.

So tell me…

Making New Friends

Last night I had the amazing opportunity to meet in real life someone I’ve “known” on Facebook for several months. Her name is Windy, and we had a blast!

We met in a Facebook group called The Socialite Suite. If you are in direct sales, I highly encourage you to check it out. I’ll include links at the end of the post.

A few weeks ago, Windy visited the Red Lobster with her mom. She Periscoped her love of all you can eat shrimp and the biscuits. I commented that I’d never been to a Red Lobster. So began the plans to indoctorinate me.

Last night, she Periscoped my first bite. I confess to laughing so hard it was hard to eat! Ok, the biscuit was pretty darn good. The waitress pressured the kitchen to make a perfect batch for us, and they did well. (By the way, the waitress was probably one of the best and most entertaining I’ve ever met.)We of course ordered the all you can eat shrimp, and we didn’t totally overdo it. We talked and laughed and cried and got to know each other better. We discovered a number of things we share in common. It was a really fun evening. It’s so strange to meet someone in real life when you already kinda know them!

Upon leaving, Windy shared her catalog with me. I of course did NOT have one in my bag, as alas, I am the worst consultant ever!  I plan to mail her one 😉 (I did find some in my car, and my purse is restocked now.)

You can learn more about my new pal Windy at www.windyscharmedlife.com She is an Oragami Owl consultant (her jewelry totally rocked!) Check out the cool lockets, let her tell your story. Tell her I said hi.
